How power helps to reveal the cultural context in "King Lear"

The distribution of power in both King Lear and Pride helps to show the cultural context at the time. In King Lear all the power is held by the men in the story. This can be seen at the start of the play when King Lear is trying to sell off Cordelia to the highest bidder. This shows that at the time women and daughters were used to trade power and wealth and were viewed more as objects than people this can clearly been seen when France says " That she, whom even but now was your best object" to Lear referring to Coredelia. whereas in pride
